GLENSIDE GARDEN

"If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need."

— Marcus Tullius Cicero

Have you seen the seeds sprouting at the front desk? If you come into the library from the entrance near the book drops, you’ll see some seed sprouts, but they aren’t the only seeds sprouting in the library.

On Wednesday, March 20, I planted seeds and set up a mini greenhouse. The library has a lot of seeds, but not all can be planted in the ground. Some need to be started in advance. Using egg cartons, special dirt for seed starting, and an old food takeout container, I planted Basil, Peppers and Tomatoes. The mini greenhouse currently resides in the staff area, but will make an appearance at some storytimes.

As of Thursday, March 28, some seeds have sprouted! Currently, there is basil and tomato sprouts. The peppers have not sprouted yet.

Watch and see if we’ll be planting our own tomato plants in a few weeks! Our Garden Opening Day is April 17 from 3:30 to 5:30 PM.
